One of the best new-mex meals I have had, and prices/portions are very generous. I had the blue corn cheese enchiladas with green chile and loved them. I am usually not a huge fan of Pozole but I really liked theirs. Beans were also tasty and who doesn't like having a sopapilla included in the price? It was a lot for $8. No ambience to speak of but who cares? The place was packed at lunchtime but our food still came quite quickly. What's not to like?

From the outside Viola's isn't appealing. It looks like an old building and isn't inviting. It sure doesn't look like a happening place to eat. In fact, the inside doesn't look much different. It's similar to an old Burger King and brings a boring, bland feeling. Fortunately, the food is better than the decor. This place is a hidden gem, with friendly locals who cook and take orders. Having eaten at dozens of New Mexican style restaurants from Los Amamos, to Espanola, Taos, Sante Fe and many others, Viola's can hang with most, but might cost you less. There's a tremendous amount of value here and large portions that's go with it, which is kind of odd. Don't most places charge more and give you less now-a-days? Not here. You'll be impressed. Good luck finding better Green Chili Soup and Pozole. Those soups here are amazing and come in a bowl so large you won't be hungry enough to eat anything else, which is a shame because the burritos and red chili are awesome here! In fact, there isn't anything we did like or want to eat of neighboring tables plates. Viola's is a wonderful place for breakfast or lunch when cruising through Los Alamos. And, you came to this small town, why? Make a stop here and the trip will feel worth it.

Stopped by Violas today on our way up to Jemez Springs and hoped to get an amazing 4 1/2 star meal. But instead we got rushed out in 20 minutes. We were told to finish up because they were closing. Not only did they have bad service, the food was NOT WORTH STOP even for the 15 minutes we were aloud to eat.

Get the chips, salsa and guac. The Dallas burrito is mouth watering! The service and atmosphere is awesome!!! Love this place and it is my sons favorite!!!

Very good food and friendly service. We both had the blue corn enchiladas with green sauce. Yum!

Good breakfast burritos, I was a little disappointed at the sausage they used. I would not consider it authentic New Mexican food, but nevertheless, great! The service was crummy, they got three of our orders wrong, the waitress came only once to get drink refills. Afterwards, she never brought us our ticket.

Excellent coffee. I had a cup of pinto beans with green chile and a poached egg for breakfast. Tasty chile, medium-hot with a lot of flavor. Friendly service, and they kept my coffee cup filled. I will definitely be back. My breakfast, plus French toast for a friend, came to a whopping $13.

If you go to the address on this website, you will never find this place. It hasn't been at the location shown on Google or any other search engine. They have been in their current location for 11 years now, so make note that Violas is in the old KFC building on Trinity. (Sorry, not sure of the address, no one has it correct) Wonderful food. They green chili soup with beans is about as good as it gets. Son in law went skiing two years ago and had breakfast, and said it was the best he had ever had. It's a small place so if you go for lunch, go a little early.

Really great green chile. Chunky vs. Puréed and just the right heat. Great little p,ace to stop after hiking in the area. Closes early so don't count on a late lunch.

Excellent smothered breakfast burritos (burrito ranchero on the menu). Good New Mexican food for both breakfast and dinner and you can't beat the price anywhere in town. Not much on atmosphere, but its nice to see all the regulars on a Saturday morning.

I had breakfast at Viola's again. I am here about 6 times a month because it' s consistently good. Breakfast or lunch, whatever is ordered, it is always good.

Went to Viola's recently for breakfast. Arrived shortly before 10:30, wasn't given a menu for nearly ten minutes. Upon ordering was told they don't do pancakes and french toast after 10:30. Had they taken our order in a timely fashion, it would have been before 10:30. Staff looked right at me waiting for someone to bring menus and ignored me. I'm guessing they were waiting for 10:30 to pass. I'm not really sure what the deal is with not serving pancakes or french toast past 10:30. They are only two of the simplest items to make in a kitchen. I had a breakfast burrito, which was decent enough, however their red chile is really watery and really bland. Definitely the worst red chile I've had in a while. The prices are pretty good, however they certainly reflect the quality of the food as well.

Great local family run diner style restaurant. Mind-blowing sopapillas. Try the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast or even lunch.

I've eaten at Viola's for years. This is a typical family-run operation that has a lot of regulars, but they don't take their regulars for granted. Their northern NM food is their forte' (try the combo with green chile!)...but they also have standards like good old fashioned cheeseburgers and grilled cheese sandwiches. Their iced tea is the best in town... Get there about 11am for lunch...any later, and you'll be in a long line to wait. Enjoy!

WOW. This place has most delicious food. The owner is a friendly guy and a Cowboys's fan (we won't hold it against him) had a small issue with the older waitress but no biggie, the food made up for her crankiness and getting my order wrong. The place is packed and has a long line but it moves quick. Next trip to Santa Fe may have to have a visit to Los Alamos.

I had the blue corn enchilada with half red and half green chile. I found out I am a green guy, at least at Viola's; not that the red was bad, just enjoyed the green more. This place has it. Diner atmosphere, the enchilada was amazing, and the sopapilla to end with was nice. The server was attentive and nice. The place was crowded but I got in and out quickly. I should follow up that I went back for the daily specials: Stuffed sopapilla, Navajo taco, and once again for the BCE... All fabulous. They will tell you the Navajo taco is like the stuffed sopapilla only with the filling on the outside. This might be the case, but I enjoy the stuffed sopapilla more. Oh, the sorta "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" atmosphere only adds to it! The address on here is wrong as I type this. It should be 1360 Trinity Dr.

One of the better New Mexican restaurants I have tried.. Better than most of the New Mexican places in Santa Fe, many of which are overpriced tourist traps. Has a diner kind of feel.. Great for breakfast, brunch, or lunch.. Often quite crowded.

After 3 nights sleeping under the stars, we rolled into town looking for a hot meal. Surely this must be the place. I ordered a giant breakfast burrito "Christmas" style, half green/half red chile, loaded with egg, sausage, cheese and potato. I felt like a new man walking out of Viola's. Great little diner in Los Alamos.

I know many people may not agree with me, but for me Viola's was only above average and not as delicious as all of the other reviewers make it out to be. I went for lunch and got the combo plate, which has two tacos, pozole, and a chicken enchilada - christmas chile. While the chile on top was quite good and flavorful, the actual food itself was not as high quality. The enchilada tortilla and the meat inside was quite bland, and the tacos tasted like ones you would get at Taco Bell - not bad, but it's still...Taco Bell. The pozole was actually pretty good though. The service wasn't very good either - although it was quite busy, I was there for about an hour and the waitress only came by once to refill my drink. I was definitely getting thirsty towards the end. I'm not a New Mexico native so my palate may not be as refined towards New Mexican food, but in terms of tacos and enchiladas I've had for a similar price (~$9 for my combo plate and drink), I've had better.

This place is a jewel! Yes, the restaurant is located in an old KFC. Yes, they use to be located where the old Sparky's was by the old Center Theater. Yes, Sparky's made me sick a time or two... But Viola's biggest drawback is that it is not open for dinner. The food here is the basic Northern New Mexico fair. Enchiladas, burritos, tacos, Huevos Rancheros, etc. Nothing more and nothing less. The place is a dive. Note that the chile is where it need to be. Not that hot, but full of flavor. I recommend the Huevos Rancheros, over easy, xmas on a corn tortilla. or a breakfast burrito smothered, red. or the enchilada plate, chicken, xmas. With an egg on top.

Great food, friendly quick service - and consistently good! Great Carne Adovada - but only on Fridays! Only thing is I wish they were open on Sunday for breakfast!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
